Didsbury
Didsbury was originally a Saxon fort. Although it is so close to the city centre the area retains a village community identity. Didsbury is split into three districts, West Didsbury, Didsbury Village and East Didsbury. West Didsbury is fiercely independent, dominated by The Metropolitan Pub and a plethora of small but credible restaurants. Didsbury Village is the most sought-after area of the three, with a bustling village centre that boasts top-end chains like Café Rouge and Pitcher and Piano, boutique hotels, delis and a large M&S supermarket.
East Didsbury is best known for its sedate, tree-lined streets and excellent schools. What the three areas have in common is an affluent community. Didsbury is made for people with money, though it doesn’t shout about it. The rental and property markets reflect this, and prices are consistently higher than in the areas around. Properties range from stylish new-builds to sprawling Victorian houses, many of which are set in conservation areas. One-bedroom flats cost around £140,000, with four-bedroom properties selling currently for a cool half a million pounds.
Chorlton
One of Greater Manchester’s most desirable suburbs to live in. While less expensive on average than neighbouring Chorlton, it is no less well-equipped for professionals, students and families. Being an area with a strong arty atmosphere and bohemian feel, it is the location of choice for media types due to it’s short distance from Manchester’s Media City.
With a selection of excellent Primary Schools and child-friendly cafes, Chorlton is perfect for young families. The properties in the area are spacious and therefore ideal for someone who wants the peace of a quiet suburb, with easy access to busy Manchester for work and days out.
